Who Are We?
Welcome to Bangiya Parishad Qatar (BPQ), a vibrant socio-cultural organization affiliated by Indian Cultural Center (ICC) under the aegis of Embassy of India in Qatar. Founded by culturally-conscious and socially-minded Bengali expatriates, BPQ stands as a testament to the enduring vision of the Bengali community in the Gulf region.
Since our establishment in 1996, BPQ has grown from a cherished dream into a flourishing reality. For over four decades, Bengali families have journeyed to Qatar—the Pearl of the Middle East—seeking opportunities while carrying their rich cultural heritage. Our organization is the proud culmination of this continuous journey, bridging the bond between the motherland and our home away from home.
Driven by genuine enthusiasm and social sensitivity, our members work tirelessly to celebrate the vibrant cultural diversity of India and Bengal. We represent and honor the traditions of West Bengal, Tripura, Assam, and communities from across India, weaving them together into a colorful tapestry of cultural expression that enriches life in Qatar.
Our Roots
Bengal in our memory
While the bustling streets of Kolkata hold a special place in our hearts, the true essence of Bengal stretches far beyond the city limits. It lives in the vast, emerald expanse of paddy fields, the winding rivers, and the vibrant folk traditions that have shaped our culture for centuries. Surrounded by the desert landscapes of our second home, the lush, rain-washed memories of our motherland hold an even deeper magic for us.
Our Roots is a journey into the heart of Bengal — a tribute to the rustic beauty, the poetic heritage, and the earthy simplicity of the land we call home.
Glimpses of Our Golden Bengal
- The Rhythm of the Seasons — Remembering the sudden, thrilling rush of a Kalbaishakhi storm, the sweet scent of wet earth during the monsoons, and the swaying white sea of Kaash phool announcing the arrival of autumn.
- The Riverine Heart — The lifeblood of Bengal lies in its rivers. From the echoing songs of the Bhatiali boatmen to the quiet courtyards of terracotta temples and village homes, the rural landscape represents our deepest connection to the soil.
- Melody, Art, and Tradition — A celebration of an enduring heritage: the soul-stirring strains of a Baul's ektara, the intricate beauty of Alpana drawn on festive mornings, and the timeless warmth of community gatherings during Poush Parbon.
- The Spirit of the People — Whether it is the intellectual vibrancy of a neighborhood adda, the smell of fresh pithe puli in the winter, or the unparalleled artistry of our festivals, it is the everyday magic of the Bengali people that truly defines the region.
This space is a digital tapestry woven with the threads of nostalgia. For our Bangiya Parishad family, Our Roots serves as a gentle reminder of the soil from which we bloomed — ensuring that the rich, diverse heritage of Bengal continues to inspire and connect us, no matter the miles between.
